Our History

How one job can turn into a small thriving company...

Darren McCulloch, the creator of DMC Landscapes Ltd has a long history of working in the landscape gardening field.
At 17 years old, Darren starting working on commercial sites for a company as a landscape gardener where he quickly rose up through the ranks and became well known for his level of care and attention to detail on all tasks.
Never a dull moment, especially when cutting back vegetation around nature reserve reservoirs Redhill, Surrey

By the age of 19, Darren had set off on his own and created DMC Landscapes where he continued to contract for his original employers alongside working for several other large landscape companies throughout the South East. Projects taken on by DMC Landscapes covered both commercial and domestic clientele with a growing reputation for design and construction of developers show gardens.
The role was simple. You had a garden, a set budget and 2 days (at most) to turn a pile of soil into a show garden to sell houses

Every garden was different, incorporating the many different styles of houses developers were constructing and designing gardens to meet the desires of the potential buyers, but also be easy to maintain and upkeep for years for to come.

As enjoyable as the challenges were on the commercial side of the business, DMC Landscapes was heading in a different direction, away from the often ludicrous time scales and difficulties of creating great gardens on new build sites (One of Darren's first dates with his now wife Jo, was having her hold the torch so they could complete a show garden in Caterham for opening the very next morning).
Through sheer word of mouth a quickly growing number of domestic clients were booking DMC Landscapes up for garden restoration projects, landscape and repeat maintenance works. This suited Darren and his team well as they could finally apply their level of care and professionalism to their projects they had dreamed of.
It is only through working closely with our clients that we are able to give them the gardens they truly desire

In 2008 DMC Landscapes incorporated and has continued to grow in both the domestic and commercial markets. Darren has always kept his team small and has hand picked his staff who really share in his passion for landscaping and great gardens. Darren's passion for great work clearly shines through in all his projects and has earned DMC Landscapes Ltd exciting projects from as far a field as central London and South Devon.
A recent project in Tuckenhay, South Devon early 2016, Darren and his team played a great part in the design and construction of this courtyard garden incorporating the local landscape and materials along with addressing potential drainage issues from the river and a planting scheme to suit.

Darren's passion for plants meant that in 2009 he also established a plants and garden supplies shop in Cornwall and online. This was a great channel for Darren to share his knowledge and passion for plants with customers from all over as he successfully sourced and supplied plants of any quantity or size for his customers both in the South East and South West.
With something for everyone and every garden

The grow your own herbs and fruit section was always a great success

Colour and wildlife is so important in any garden

With the closure of the plant centre in 2012 (due to Darren's growing family), Darren was then able to focus on plant and garden supplies in the South East and apply himself even more with the domestic landscape and horticultural projects and soon completed a garden design course allowing him to offer his ideas and designs in clarity with requests for garden advisory services becoming even more in demand.

Over the past few years DMC Landscapes Ltd have carried out many projects from designing and creating Mediterranean style outdoor kitchens to renovating sand schools and creating outdoor living spaces in all shapes and sizes.
Darren and his team continue to thrive with their passion and drive at creating and maintaining beautiful gardens for people to enjoy for years to come.
